You Should Self-Publish, and here's why...

I recently published my first children's book, Mr. Noet, and I am so glad that I chose the route of self publishing. Let me tell you why this is an option that you should consider.

Self-publishing has been gaining popularity in recent years, and it's not hard to see why. While traditional publishing still has its benefits, there are several compelling reasons why I think you should consider self-publishing your book.

1. Creative Control

When you self-publish, you have complete creative control over your book. You can choose the cover design, the interior layout, and even the font. This means you can create a book that truly reflects your vision, rather than having to compromise with a publisher.

2. Faster Time to Market

With traditional publishing, it can take years to get your book to market. You have to go through the agent and publisher submissions process, which can take months or even years. Then, once your book is accepted, it can take another year or two before it's actually published. Self-publishing, on the other hand, allows you to get your book to market much faster. You can have your book published in as little as a few weeks.

3. Higher Royalties

One of the biggest advantages of self-publishing is that you get to keep a larger share of the profits. With traditional publishing, authors typically receive a royalty rate of 10-15% of the book's retail price. With self-publishing, you can receive up to 70% of the retail price.

4. Greater Flexibility

Self-publishing also gives you greater flexibility in terms of the format of your book. You can publish an ebook, a print book, or even an audiobook. You can also choose to publish your book in multiple formats, which can help you reach a wider audience.

5. Control over Marketing

Traditional publishers often have limited resources to dedicate to marketing your book, which means that much of the marketing effort falls on the author. When you self-publish, you have complete control over the marketing of your book. You can choose which marketing channels to use, and you can tailor your marketing efforts to your target audience.

6. Rejection Letters

Perhaps one of the most frustrating aspects of traditional publishing is the submission process. Even if your book is well-written and engaging, there's always a chance that it will be rejected by publishers. With self-publishing, you don't have to worry about rejection letters. You can publish your book regardless of whether or not it's accepted by traditional publishers.

In conclusion, while traditional publishing still has its benefits, self-publishing is becoming an increasingly attractive option for authors. With greater creative control, faster time to market, higher royalties, greater flexibility, control over marketing, and no rejection letters, it's easy to see why self-publishing is a viable option for authors today. So, if you're considering publishing a book, don't overlook the benefits of self-publishing.
